No Boxing Day swim … I wonder why?

No Boxing Day swim … I wonder why?

It has become something of a tradition in our family that I take to the sea on Boxing day – for charity. Usually organised by the Bridport Round Table upwards of 100 people take to the sea in every imaginable fancy dress, watched by an eager crowd, pleased to be out in the fresh air after a full-on Christmas Day. It is a great fund raiser and one which the Round table can be proud of. Sadly this year it wasn’t to be! The waves along our beautiful coastline were so volatile and high that it was just too risky to let mad people like me loose on them.

The crowds had come is great numbers to see the annual spectacle, and even though the swim didn’t take place West Bay was buzzing with people taking the bracing ‘ozone’ laden air. The waves were a dramatic sight in themselves and Andrew snapped quite a few, which you can find in the ‘Christmas Gallery’ on this website.

Not to be defeated we took Cassie out for a wonderful walk along the Hive Beach, and again witnessed amazing seas and waves. This picture of the under-cliff shows the spray as it came over the beach and the people on it.

Next year perhaps!

We have started taking lots of bookings for the early spring and summer months and lots of our friends from this year are returning to see us again.

So Andrew and I wish you a Happy New-year! and hope to see you all sometime in 2016!
