It doesn’t get much more local than eggs from our chickens, and in season, some herbs picked from the garden. Or if you are thirsty, a glass of cider from our neighbour’s apples.
Fine food and views at Hive Beach Cafe
Take a stroll out the front gate and within 10 minutes you’ll find Modbury Farm Shop. They have Angus beef and pork from their own Saddleback rare breed herds. Depending what’s in season, there will be fresh farm vegetables too, along with a mouthwatering selection of ice-creams, fudges, cheeses, all from local farmers and producers.
There are also a couple of pubs in Burton Bradstock, each with its own charm. The
Anchor Inn is a traditional village pub that specialises in seafood. The
Three Horseshoes has more of a gastropub feel to it, with many of its ingredients sourced locally. If you stroll down to our nearest beach you’ll find the very special
Hive Beach Café, which was named one of the World’s Five Best Fish Restaurants by the Daily Telegraph. And if you fancy pushing the boat out a bit,
The Seaside Boarding House has wonderful views, with food and drink of a similar quality.
We strongly advise you to book restaurants and pubs before you come to stay with us, in order to secure your table.
A little further afield, the small fishing/holiday town of West Bay is just a five minute drive away, with plenty of fresh local fish to eat and some great restaurants. And in West Bexington, the team behind The Hive are now running
The Clubhouse restaurant.
On the edge of Bridport is
Palmers Brewery – the only thatched brewery in the UK. You can drink their range of local ales in many of the nearby pubs and restaurants. Drop into the brewery and you can also enjoy a tour.
If you fancy a meal in Bridport, we recommend
The Olive Tree, and
Dorshi, and the town itself is a thriving market town with a street market every Wednesday and Saturday, along with several good independent shops.
Finally, there are some nationally famous eating places in the vicinity and easily accessible by car, such as Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s
River Cottage , and Mark Hix’s
Oyster House Restaurant, which overlooks the Cobb at Lyme Regis.
